Stripe

Staff Engineer, Agentic Commerce

Stripe

Who we are About Stripe Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies — from the world's largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups — use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career. About the team AI agents are starting to shop, buy, and pay on behalf of people and businesses. Agentic commerce is how Stripe makes that safe, reliable, and ubiquitous for both agents and sellers. We're building this from close to zero, and it's critical that we make our offerings globally available, including to many of our most strategic users in APAC. This role anchors that work in the region, based in our Singapore office. As one of the first engineers on the ground, you will shape agentic commerce, broadly, and how it localizes to APAC, specifically. What you'll do You'll set technical direction for agentic commerce in APAC and build it. This is a founding-engineer role in a new area: high ownership, ambiguous problems, and users who are inventing their businesses alongside us. Because you'll work many time zones from the core team, you'll operate with a high degree of autonomy. Stripe generally prizes clear writing, and this role is no exception: crisp documents are a particularly effective way to collaborate across time zones. You'll also spend real time with users. Some of the most important agentic commerce partners in the world are in APAC, and you'll be in the room with them — understanding what they're trying to build, turning that into architecture, and shipping it back to them fast. Responsibilities Own the architecture and technical direction for agentic commerce in APAC, end to end — from early design through production and adoption. Be the prime mover on large, ambiguous projects: break the problem down for parallel work, make fast product and architecture calls, and clear the blockers that would otherwise stall the team. Operate with high autonomy across time zones. Make sound decisions independently, and know when and how to escalate. Work directly with strategic users. Drive high-stakes conversations, understand what they need, and translate it into systems we can build. Write crisp technical documents — proposals, design docs, decision records — that let people in other time zones align and act without a live meeting. Represent Stripe in person with senior users and partners, explaining hard technical ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences alike. Write and review code, and hold the quality bar. You own what you ship regardless of how it was produced, and you hold AI-assisted and hand-written code to the same standard. Use AI tools as part of how you work day to day, and turn that leverage into reusable tooling and workflows that speed up everyone around you. Partner with Engineering Management, Product, and go-to-market teams across regions on long-term vision and roadmap. Teach and mentor engineers as the APAC team grows. Who you are We're looking for someone with the experience and skills below. If you meet the minimum requirements, we'd love to hear from you — the preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement. Minimum requirements 10+ years of software engineering experience, still hands-on with architecture and code. Track record as the technical lead on a complex, external-facing product or platform. Deep software architecture experience, and sound judgment about tradeoffs under ambiguity. Proven ability to work independently and drive projects to completion with little oversight — ideally across time zones or distributed teams. Superb written communication. You write documents clear enough that decisions get made async, without you present. Strong in-person and verbal communication, including in high-stakes conversations with senior, strategic users. Comfort working directly with users: listening, earning trust, and turning their needs into technical direction. Usage of AI tools as a standard part of daily delivery, holding their output to the same bar as your own, and getting more capable over time. Ability to build alignment across teams and functions without direct authority. Preferred qualifications Experience in payments, fintech, or commerce infrastructure. Experience building for APAC markets, or fluency in the region's commerce landscape and languages. Experience with AI agents, LLM-driven products, or the protocols that let software transact autonomously. A history of taking early-stage products from zero to adoption. Experience as a founding or early engineer on a new team or product.

Mercury

Senior Software Engineer - Banking Integration Platform

Mercury

When the Space Shuttle approached the International Space Station, two vehicles built by different teams, in different countries, with fundamentally different engineering philosophies and systems, had to connect perfectly. The Rendezvous, Proximity Operations, and Docking (RPOD) subsystems were engineered to handle complex mismatches such as different power systems, communication protocols, and technical architectures. Get it wrong, and you have a very expensive and potentially catastrophic problem in low Earth orbit. Mercury announced on December 19, 2025 that we submitted an application to the OCC for a national bank charter and applied for FDIC deposit insurance. On April 27, 2026, Mercury announced conditional approval. In other words, Mercury has the universe’s cosmic blessing to build a bank, and we are full speed ahead. As part of this work, we will be connecting our modern, product-focused engineering systems to enterprise core banking systems and payment networks built in a different era, with different assumptions and different interfaces. Mercury’s Banking* Integration Platform team is like NASA’s RPOD team, building our integration subsystems that are technically correct and operationally trustworthy. This is some of the most consequential infrastructure work at Mercury. Every account opening, every monetary transaction, and every balance call will flow through the systems you build. Product teams across the company will depend on clean abstractions that hide the complexity underneath. You'll be one of the few engineers at Mercury who truly understands the full depth of our Bank Core* and all its internal and external integrations. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Banking Integration Platform Team, you’ll play a key role as a technical leader and hands-on engineer in building seamless connections between Mercury and the outside financial world. Building Mercury Bank is the most important adventure the company is embarking on, and you have the opportunity to go on this mission. As part of this role, you will: Build Mercury’s integration with an FFIEC-approved bank core and the connections to payment networks. Design internal APIs that give product teams simple, consistent interfaces to complex external systems. Handle the messy realities of enterprise integrations such as retries, failures, format mismatches, and downtime. Build data pipelines that keep Mercury's systems in sync with our bank core. Own monitoring, alerting, and recovery for our most critical external connections. Partner with many other teams at Mercury to define clean boundaries and reliable contracts. Help shape the technical architecture of Mercury Bank*. The ideal candidate for the role: Has 7+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating backend infrastructure and distributed systems at scale. Has experience integrating modern distributed software systems with older, legacy infrastructure, preferably in a highly-regulated environment. There are unique challenges when embarking on such a mission, and we’re looking for someone who is excited to join with eyes wide open. Has an understanding of how banks and banking systems work: accounts, transactions, ledgers, and the data models underneath. Is a product-minded engineer who thinks about the developers consuming your APIs, not just the systems you’re connecting to. Thrives in environments where you're building something new rather than maintaining something established. Is comfortable with our tech stack (Haskell) or ready to learn. Has strong and justified opinions about building reliable, maintainable systems. If this role interests you, we invite you to explore our public demo at demo.mercury.com . The total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits. Our salary and equity ranges are highly competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry. New hire offers are made based on a candidate’s experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers. Our target new hire base salary ranges for this role are the following: US employees (any location): $200,700 - $250,900 Canadian employees (any location): CAD $189,700 - $237,100 *Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC. Mercury values diversity & belonging and is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. All individuals seeking employment at Mercury are considered without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, marital status, ancestry, physical or mental disability, veteran status, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other legally protected characteristic. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations throughout the recruitment process for applicants with disabilities or special needs.
